Thanks for joining me! This blog is to share my personal experiences with the RBI Grade B 2018 exam and guide future aspirants preparing for the same
A few points before I lay down the strategy I followed for the exam…
- Investopedia and Arthapedia need to be used extensively to understand new concepts better
- I benefited immensely from strategies mentioned by people who have cleared this exam in the past (links to some of their posts below)
- Quora blog by previous years’ toppers
- Interview 1 and Interview 2 on Mrunal’s website
- It is essential to go through multiple candidates’ perspectives to prepare a more comprehensive strategy for oneself. Journeys of some of the 2018 toppers have been collated as part of the OneDrive initiative by 2018 batch
- Insights, based on my experiences with this exam, that I have not been able to assign to a particular category have all been compiled in the FAQs section (including some answers I’ve written on Quora). For example, ‘Which newspaper to study?’, ‘What would be a good sequence of preparation for Phase – II topics?’ etc.
- My background (to give an idea of topics I was already familiar with)
- Good at math and English
- B. Tech. in Mechanical Engg. (familiar with Manufacturing Management)
- 2.5 years of preparation for Civil Services Exam (familiar with ESI topics)
- Failed to clear CSE 2017 mains, CSE 2018 prelims, SBI PO 2018 prelims, SEBI Grade A 2018 mains, but high on josh (motivation)
- RBI Grade B 2018 – cleared exam in first attempt without opting for coaching/coaching notes
- I have shared some of my notes in following posts. Preparing one’s own notes from standard text books helps understand topics better. Hence, these notes should only be used as a reference on how to better prepare notes for faster revision
- I have created a Telegram bot to answer queries about RBI Grade B prep. The objective is to collate all authentic resources and information related to prep at one place
- Updates on new posts/notes/FAQs on the blog and new features in the Telegram bot would be posted on the blog’s Telegram channel
- Contact for strategy related doubts/feedback on blog (I generally reply to doubts late in the evening)

Hello sir
I was really confused in one thing whether to purchase any study material or the courses which are provided by various sites like meritshine or edutap or not ?

Hi Khyati, the very reason why I wrote this blog is to let fellow aspirants know that this exam can be cleared without referring to any coaching material. All you need is a will to understand new concepts that you come across while preparing, and a good internet connection. I would advice you to study the syllabus of this exam in detail and then go through some of the freely available material that I have recommended in various posts of the blog. If you think you would be able to prepare the topics mentioned in the syllabus by studying these standard books, go ahead and start preparing from these sources. If at some point you feel that this material is too scattered or that you are unable to understand concepts by simply reading them from the freely available sources, you can decide on whether to buy any coaching institute’s material. Personally, I won’t be able to help out with this because I did not refer to coaching notes and hence have absolutely no idea about the quality of their content. You may want to seek guidance from the strategies that other selected candidates have uploaded on the OneDrive (link in blog)

Hi,
While I am aware of the challenges of competitive exams, that even the best ones fail sometimes; I was wondering if you could shed some light on why you were unable to clear above-mentioned exams? I mean, in hindsight do you have any key takeaway/learnt lessons on what might have hindered your earlier performance? Maybe like a general What-Not-To-Do list.
Thanks for this blog, I am new here but this has been very helpful.
And Congratulations! 🙂

Hello sir,
As you have joined RBI as a manger, could you tell about your daily lifestyle. Also what benefits of RBI where no other working place can get you. It will motivate people like me to study with an extra push

Hi Anvesh, before joining RBI, I did plan on writing about this over here. Unfortunately, from what I understand, the social media policy of RBI does not allow me to do so. You may want to read other RBI Managers’ experiences on Quora though

Hello sir,
Thank you so much for creating this blog. It’s helping me out so much. i need to ask you one question, Do work experience matter in the final selection ?
Due to genuine reason, i didn’t continue my job. But then directly jumped into preparing for this. And the strategies which are shared by the candidates who cleared this exam has strong working background. So i am little tensed about the work experience thing. Please help me out in this too.

Hi Manisha, in my opinion, RBI doesn’t hold a lack of work experience against you. As long as you prepare well and are able to justify the decisions taken by you, you should be fine. Don’t worry about these things. There are many in my batch who have freshly graduated from college and still managed a good score in the Interview. On the other hand, there are others like me who had good relevant work ex but couldnt score very well in the Interview.
